Summary:
This resource is an analysis of data collected by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Region Commission about the ‐279 parkway HOV lanes, which are a set of two to three lanes that a restricted to two or more passengers and are reversible to help the extra traffic southbound during the morning commute and northbound during the evening commute. Using extensive data taken by sensors along the road, the report calculates the level of utility of the lanes. In brief, without the lanes, traffic density would double in the morning and would become totally gridlocked in the afternoon.
